Artist Statement:
VALERIE ROVIRA
Although drawn to art as a child, lifeís distractions and responsibilities sidelined my art career. In the mid 1970s, newly relocated to Missouri from New Jersey, I reconnected with the art world by participating in workshops taught by St. Louis artist, Dimitri Zonia. During this period I concentrated on photo realism oil portraits.
Life interrupted again. After taking art instruction at educational institutions I returned to painting in 2002 and attended workshops and classes instructed by Jerry Thomas, a well-known St. Louis artist. I have broadened my subject matter, embraced acrylics and colored pencils, and experimented with different techniques. Now, enjoying the freedom of semi-retirement, I am able to spend more time learning the technical aspects of art, continuing my art education, and exploring and expanding my capabilities. I have discovered that I am a colorist, an impressionist, and love impasto.
I participated in the St. Louis Artists Guild and the American Art Alliance of St. Louis and am currently affiliated with the Oak Leaf Artists Guild in St. Peters, MO and the Art World Association in St. Louis, MO. My work has won numerous awards and is included in private and corporate collections and represented in galleries.
I enjoy supporting art projects in the community and have contributed work to be auctioned and participated in outdoor mural painting. I have also participated in the Artists on the Terrace program at Nortonís Fine Art & Framing and the Augusta Plein Air Painting event in Augusta, MO. My work has been exhibited at the following St. Louis venues:
