Katie Asckar, international artist, has her art work in various collections in Brazil, Canada, and Missouri. Painting since 1995 when she was 14, her talent blossomed as she studied on her own and under different teachers in America and Brazil. Since age 15 she has sold various portraits by commission. Katie considers drawing people to be her expertise, although she has painted various other subjects.
Her passion has long been drawing and painting, but above all her first love is Jesus Christ. In 2000 Katie had a chance to prove that by giving up her studies under a local artist and at East Central College, to go to a missionary training school in Texas. There she met her future husband, David, and moved to Brazil to work with street children. Katie didn't hide her talents in the slums, but started teaching art to the children despite the language difficulty.
Later in Brazil, Katie continued her studies under 3 different artists. In 2007 after 6 years in Brazil, David and Katie moved temporarily back to the United States, where their son Joshua was born. At the end of 2008 they will move back to Brazil where David will pastor a new church.
Her paintings evoke a timelessness that takes us back to the days when life was simpler; where the one lost sheep had value. "My inspiration for the two Shepherd paintings is that as our Heavenly Father looks for us, we also need to care for others." In 'The Rescued Lamb' Katie used her husband as a model. The very month that she finished the painting he was ordained a pastor in Brazil. Now they are going back to care for God's "Brazilian" lambs!
Katie often says she wants her paintings to glorify God and bring people to "Remember Their Creator". "Many artists paint for their own joy or for the pleasure of those around them, but I paint for the delight and joy of the King of the universe. My art is painted with excellence and done with all my heart."
"I pray that wherever my art is hung peace fills that place, and those who gaze upon my work will be overwhelmed with the love of the Father, our Creator."
