"Growing upin New York City, the pleasures of art came early. I have in my mind the image of myself at age five in the drawing room of the Brooklyn Museum School of Fine Art with the sun shining in and dust motes flying off the dark green velvet drapes. I continued studying at the Brooklyn Museum throughout my childhood and adolescence, whereupon I was enrolled at Pratt Institute. While the other kids were playing "territory" or stickball in the Brooklyn streets, I would take the subway to fifty-seventh street in Manhattan and draw from the figure at the Art Students League. I am certain that throughout my studies I have rendered every muscle and bone in the human body. At the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I could spend a whole day surrounded by Rembrandt's work - my favorite was the "Woman with Pink" - oh so beautiful pearls! Then on to the Frick Collection to study Titian's magnificent Boy in a Red Hat. Eventually I earned a degree in Art History. All this was capped the year when I received a scholarship to go to New York and work with the former director of the Metropolitan Museum. At one point along the way I conducted a tour of the Uffizzi Gallery in Florence Italy."
